Simple Ideas To Make Baby Bibs
Easy Start-up DIY Baby Project
If you have babies at home, you know the number of bibs that they go through. It’s almost like you can find some sort of a proportion between the number of diapers that they use and the number of bibs that they go through. To cut down on costs, you can make baby bibs at home. This also gives you the flexibility to create eco-friendly bibs for your infant. Creating baby bibs is not difficult. In fact, it is one of the easiest baby projects you can take on. It is a do-it-yourself project, and here are the supplies that you will need:
- 1 terry cloth bib to use as a template/pattern;
- 1 package of 2-yard double-fold bias tape;
- Sewing machine;
- Sewing thread;
- 1/4 yard of cotton terry cloth fabric;
- Scissors;
- Miscellaneous sewing supplies for decoration (optional).
Place the pre-purchased baby bib on a white paper and trace its shape. Cut this pattern out using a pair of scissors. Unroll and cut about 34″ of bias tape. Pin the paper pattern cutout to your terry cloth fabric, and cut the fabric around the paper pattern. Once this is done, remove the pins and the paper pattern cutout. Cover and pin the bias tape around the raw edges of the bib fabric, leaving the neck area uncovered.
Stitch the bias tape into place and then, fasten off. Cut yet another piece of bias tape, which measures about 26″ long. Attach the center of the bias tape to the center of the bib’s neck area, and pin into place. You will see that about 10″ of bias tape is left hanging at both ends of the neck edge. This is to be used for the ties. Sew the neck opening to cover and attach the raw edges. If you are unsure at any stage, use the pre-purchased baby bib as a guide.
Decoration
You can decorate the baby bib by embroidering a name or design on it. You can also use about 3/4″ wide eyelet lace, instead of the bias tape in the first step of sewing. But for the neck area and ties, you would still need the bias tape. The lace will give the baby bib a really cute touch.
