Making Baby Toys At Home
Toys that you could have easily made at home
It’s amazing to watch your baby grow, isn’t it? At the beginning, your little bundle of joy can’t even lift his/her head up without your support. Before you know it, they are rolling around, crawling, walking and even running. Your little angels get to be that age just once and so, you want to buy them all the toys they could ever want. Your infant plays with toys and before you realize it, it’s time to get new toys. In most cases, you would be surprised when you realize the amount of money you have spent on toys. Toys that you could have easily made at home!
DIY Rattle
If you were to consider a simple rattle, it makes some noise when the baby plays with it. You buy a rattle, the baby plays with it for a few months and then it’s time to get a new toy. A simple rattle costs about $10 to $15. The baby loves the sound that the rattle makes. He/she does not care about the look of the rattle, nor does the baby care about the pretty packaging that the toy comes in. Then why go and buy a rattle, when you can make one at home? Here is how you can make a few simple baby toys at home.
Regular Rattle: Get hold of a pretty plastic bottle, small enough for the baby to hold. Put a few pebbles/beads/rice into the bottle. Secure the lid tightly so that the baby cannot open it. You have your very own baby rattle!
Foot-and-Hand Rattle: The easiest way to make a foot-and-hand baby rattle is to sew an existing rattle onto the bootie or mitten of the baby. This way, every time the baby moves its limbs, a sound will be produced. Isn’t this the easiest thing to do, when it comes to making your very own foot-and-hand rattle?
If you don’t feel like making a foot-and-hand rattle, you can always get one in Kaloo. These rattles are inexpensive. But the fact remains, that making a rattle for your little one is a wonderful feeling.
DIY Newborn Doll
Here’s a doll that’s great for newborns. It’s not just any doll but a mom-scented doll/blanket for your newborn baby! Make the doll before your baby is born and then sleep with it for a few days so that your scent will be transferred onto the doll’s material. When your baby is born, place it in his or her crib. Your baby will love having your scent nearby.
To make the stuffed toy, you will need 100% cotton flannel, satin edging and your imagination. You can make something as simple as a single-sided rectangular blanket edged with the satin. Or try cutting two heart-shaped patterns, sewing them together and slightly stuffing it. Or make something that approximates a doll shape with a head and arms but flows freely at the bottom (somewhat like a ghost shape). The size should be about 6″ or so. Whatever you end up making, be sure there are no loose ribbons or buttons that could become choking hazards. Keep it simple and everything should be sewed securely in place. These are machine-washable, so easy to care for.
DIY Baby Books
Baby Books: Making a book for your baby is the easiest DIY project you can try out. Why spend money on books with pictures, when you can make it at home using inexpensive items?
This is how you make a baby book at home. Cut the cardboard into equal-sized pieces. See to it that the pieces are easy to hold. You can then cut simple images from magazines like a colored ball, a house, a dog, a cat, a heart etc. Use tape or non-toxic glue to stick these pictures onto the cardboard pieces. Once this is done, all you need to do is cover each piece with plastic.
Just get creative, and you will come up with a lot more ideas. Making toys for your baby is a fun activity, plus it saves money.
