Nutritious Food is Important

One of the most consuming issues of taking care of a baby is related to food and feeding. When selecting baby food, you search for quality, fresh items, and if your baby has some allergies you have additional restrictions. Why not make healthy baby food at home? This is a great option since you know exactly what  ingredients are used while preparing the baby food and at the same time able to regulate its freshness. Your baby’s physical and mental growth depends on the food that he or she is fed. Babies grow rapidly the first 3 years and you can help them in growing healthy by feeding them the most nutritious food possible.

Most baby foods that are available in the market are processed and contain added sugar, water and starches. This food will not harm your child, but the nutritional value gets reduced. Since baby foods that are available in the market need to have a long shelf life, they are cooked at a very high temperature. Only then can they be preserved in jars, as the cooking process will kill all the bacteria. But the problem is, during this high temperature cooking, the food loses vitamins and other nutrients.

Simple Homemade Baby Food

Preparing homemade baby food is extremely simple, and does not take more than 30 minutes a week. Then why pay and buy food that is less nutritious for your baby? When you prepare baby food at home, you can control the food’s quality, freshness of ingredients, flavors, food texture etc. This way, you can be sure that your baby gets the right blend of nutrients.

‘Homemade Baby Food Kit’ by ‘Fresh Baby’ guides you in preparing baby foods at home. A simple sweet potato puree recipe from this kit is mentioned below:

1) Take one washed sweet potato and peel and chop it.

2) In a microwavable dish, add the chopped sweet potato and 2 tbs. of water. Cover the dish and microwave for 8 to 10 minutes. Let this mixture stand for 10 more minutes.

3) Puree the mixture, and keep adding water to make a smooth puree.

This simple sweet potato puree is highly nutritious and stays fresh in the freezer for 2 months!  While serving, take the frozen cube out, defrost it and then warm it.  Before serving the puree to your baby, remember to check the temperature.
